Single Review: Wildlife Control – Ages Places to love space
SINGLE REVIEW: We know we’re late to this party but there is something cozy about sleigh bells when they are used as a percussion instrument in songs. The brother duo of Neil and Sumul Shah’s band Wilflife Control from PA does this very well to kick-off this whimsical single. Drenched in reverb and guitar delays the vocals lay in real nice on this very magical song. The sound huge on this recording for two dudes. Recommended if you like trippy psychedelic songs, Joy Formidable mixed with Wavves/No Age we highly suggest to give these bros a spin. Catch them at SXSW: Wed 3/13 Waller Creek Boathouse 6:30pm Fri 3/15 Shakespheres 2:40 pm Fri 3/15 Maggie Mae’s midnight Sat 3/16 House of Creatives 3pm DOWNLOAD: Ages Places MP3 by Wildlife Control. Also, here’s a awesome stop motion video of theirs about a girl called “Analog or Digital” which is one of our favorite themes around here....
CXCW 2013 online music festival is happening now!
CXCW 2013: Bands, solo singer songwriters and performance artists. It’s not too late to think of an idea and perform a tune to participate in the online music festival for us poor grubs who are NOT going to SXSW this year. Three years running there is a much cooler home that you can say is yours and drink and eat whatever you want for Couch by Couch West. Kids as young as 9-10 even have bands that are performing live and getting internet famous. People are blowing up couches and playing on trains. This is a fun happening and here’s just a few of many. Here is Uncle Leon doing a song called “beer train” on a new york city subway for CXCW 2013. There is one lady on here that does not take her nose out of a book, actually like most folks numb to something fun and different. Typical new yorkers disappoint me. This festival is not for her but perhaps you think you might be able to change the world one song at time. Next up is a local to us from New Brunswick, New Jersey resident and one man band Keith Kenny doing a really great song called “Filling Holes”. We never heard of him before and thank goodness for CXCW to fill us in on great music happening in our own damn backyard. The Foresters are the youngest band ages 13-10 with a tune called “Way Up high”. Every hour from morning until night the crew at CXCW are posting photos and videos. So no matter when you check-in they have plenty for you...
The Black Angels Evil Things – evil single
SINGLE REVIEW: This is a band who knows pych. They have jammed with the masters in order to pursue their new single “Evil Things” off of their coming record Indigo Meadow is a head banger. No doubt you should prepare yourself for the drop on April 2nd. Take your vitamins and get ready to take a long dark and dang trip. The keyboards are so Doorsey when they creep...The magic of Amandla – Before Tomorrow
Great mellow song which reminds me a lot of Pink Floyd by Amandla which consists of the drummer from Ween Claude Coleman Jr. His music is as much a 70’s tribute as he remixes modern bluesy soul retwisting these themes into his own magic. If you mashed Prince and Lenny Kravitz you’d get his music. This song is off his 2nd album Full Catastrophe. New music coming soon and interesting video projects coming...
Gaytheist Stealth Beats Vs. the Science of Mosh Pits
ALBUM REVIEW: Gaythiest – Holy thrashing power ballad metal I might wonder if this band was created by bear loving lawyers or a small fleet of Navy destroyers. If distorted bass, fast beats, your vocals a little below Geddy Lee’s range almost gang style but definitely singing is your thing. Stealth Beats might just album you’ll need in fast moving vehicle to keep up with the mother fucker racing you in their 18 wheeler semi who is doing trucker crank. Now you might not partake in that nasty shit but you would challenge their notion of metal. Brought to you by the fine folks at good to die records. In summary if you need a pump of adrenalin mixed with the need to race down the highway in your muscle car then the Gaytheist’s Stealth Beats might be the thing that will allow you to own your next Mosh Pit encounter. Post Apocalyptic Lawsuit by Gaytheist Now if you attend one of their shows (see tour listing below) this coming March on the left coast please keep the following in mind. Human collective behaviors at concerts vary considerably with social context. For example, lane formation in pedestrian traffic, jamming during escape panic, and sports waves (I don’t think these are particularly Mexican see ref PDF link) at sporting events are emergent phenomena that have been observed in specific social settings. A bunch of students at Cornell University have studied large crowds and attendees of people under the extreme conditions typically found at heavy metal concerts. Often resulting in injuries [or maybe Death -Ed], the collective mood is influenced by...
