Black Gold Records in Carroll Gardens Brooklyn

We love buying records and last summer when we stumbled on Black Gold Records and Antiques I felt like a found a little mecca. I was so excited I had them take off their first T-shirt of a mannequin so I could buy it. I think I bought that pink Battles record there and a few others things. Anyway, here’s a video put together by Brooklyn Independent TV. Oh and did I mention they also sell Coffee. Perfect place to stop off after dinner around that area.

If I Love You (New European Gold Standard Secret Babylonian Brotherhood Cinema Mix) MP3 by The Brian Jonestown Massacre from Bravery, Repetition And Noise
Golden Blunders MP3 by The Posies from Dear 23
Gold Top MP3 by The Supersuckers from La Mano Carnuda

Pulaski Band Baltimore
Dear 2012, can we put on our wish list that PULASKI the band of Baltimorians make some more music for us this year? Whiskey and beer can sometimes coax the muse out of the best of bands in Pulaski’s case it’s the simple motivation like these except for maybe breakfast food. Ok they’re prone to write the occasional break-up song like their classic “I want my records back” or the religious anthem the “Black Hand of g*d”? The inspiration is pleasantly misanthropic my friends so help reel in the vibe. They’ll brew a song about almost anything using any device that is of particular amusement at their disposal including toilet paper rolls and snoring. Beneath it all tho they have great handle on the song craft and really put the joy in music. They haven’t put out any new rock music in awhile except for the below version of “Frosty” but we can hope that the descendent’s of Sick and other Balmer bands can get a few hours away from their families and make some concerted noise together. I even hear there is a unapproved Documentary on the band that probably is not suitable for the general public on facebook but we’ll see about that.

Songs About Love & Giving Thanks

Songs About Love & Giving Thanks

Don't Throw Stones - Thank you!

As we prepare to feast today I thought I’d post some songs about love and giving a big thanks to the Review Stalker readers, Twitter Followers, music fans and bands. All 3 of you know who you are so a sincere thank you! Finding good songs that are a true thank you was hard. Anyway, It was little over a year ago we went big time with the official RS blog domain. Everybody wants to own their own brand. Right? The unofficial one lived for many years on blogger. Not a huge leap really just more control on this end. I basically just promised myself to put more than 5 cents of my time into it because I spent a lot more time than that listening to all sorts of music anyway and visiting other great music blog sites. Plus it’s always nice to keep one’s ears fresh. So I built a better mouse trap. Anyway, thank you for sending the latest and greatest new music so keep it coming people! Now go get stuffed. I have to go work on my best of 2011 list.

Thanks Giving Playlist:
01) Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin) MP3 by Sly & The Family Stone (1970) Nothing says family like a Sly song. Such great music for such song that was written during the middle of the Vietnam war.
02) Very Nervous and Love (Album) MP3 by J. Mascis from Several Shades of Gray (2011) Fantastic mellow J release from this year. It’s going in the consideration pile for best of the best.
03) Thank You Jack White MP3 by The Flaming Lips from the Flight Test EP (2003) Funny personal diary song by Wayne Coyne and the boys giving thanks to Mr. White.
04) Inside of Love MP3 by Nada Surf from Let go (2002) One of the best guitar pop bands of the past two decades. I’m on the hunt for the female fronted version of this band. Any recommendations?
05) We All Love Mother MP3 by Crowder Brothers (1936) From Robert Crumb’s The Stuff That Dreams are Made of A very rare and obscure hillbilly song.
06) True Love Will Find You In The End MP3 by Daniel Johnston from 1990
07) You Don’t Love Me Yet MP3 by Bongwater from Double Bummer CD (1990). Probably one of my favorite covers & around songs all in one. I think I’ve posted it at least 3 times in the history of the RS blog. My daughter just mad my day already by asking to turn this one up. Usually it’s the opposite.
08) Lovenest MP3 by The Wedding Present from Seamonsters (1991) This is my favorite David Gedge release. Maybe because it’s the first one I ever heard. Warning it contains mountain high guitar walls of sound.
09) Don’t Laugh (I Love You) MP3 by Ween from God Ween Satan The Oneness (1991) Quite frankly no music fan should be without this record. It’s a critical element in the lo-fi genre.
10) Love Buzz MP3 by Nirvana Live in Amsterdam 11/25/91. This is a amazing live recording. Totally in their prime in this live set. If you friend the RS blog on the bookface there you will find a link in the notes to download the whole set.

Now go make a list and support your local record store tomorrow on Black Friday. Happy Hunting!

Movie Beach Scene Music Mix Summer 2011
This summer playlist is somewhat of a time warp but not the kind you would think because more than half this music I consider perfect for summer because of it’s tone or theme. The lyrics or title might mention the sun or burn the sort of imagery that you’d want in the perfect beach movie soundtrack.

It’s Summertime MP3 by The Flaming Lips from Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots This song always creeps into almost every playlist but still qualifies since it’s movie like.
Booty City MP3 by Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears from Scandalous The crew makes a wrong turn or right turn into some bar called Booty City and let the bump begin.
Divagando MP3 by Sexteto Electronico Moderno is a group from Montevideo Uruguay (1967) – Killer organ jams with a mix bossanova and Latin jazz to pop. This is very breezy music even with the dark shades on.
Red Hot MP3 by Billy Emerson (1957) Great swinging tune from a Sun Records compilation he sings. “My girl is red hot, my girl is red hot.”
Everything Looks Better In the Sun MP3 by Obits from Moody, Standard, and Poor (2011)
Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win MP3 by Beastie Boys from their new one Hot Sauce Committee Part Two (2011) – featuring Santigold. This is a total island jam complete with horns and Lee Scratch Perry analog delay. Summertime Bossa Nova MP3 by Seth Kauffman from the record Research (2007). Lots of different sounds on this record. This track is exactly what it says.
Pretty Good At Drinkin’ Beer MP3 by country singer Billy Currington
Behind The Sun MP3 by Red Hot Chili Peppers from The Uplift Mofo Party Plan (1987). The sun is coming up from the end of evening as the gang recounts the rest of the evening.
Hot Fun In The Summertime MP3 by Sly & The Family Stone (1969)
